Swinton Lions continue to strengthen their pack with the signing of Adam Jones for the 2019 Championship campaign.
Head Coach Stuart Littler has worked with the board to build his pack for the 2019 Championship season, adding Jones to the strong outfit which includes; Frankie Halton, Jose Kenga, Billy Brickhill, Lewis Hatton and most recently our marquee-signing and Super League forward Gavin Bennion.
Jones had previously made 19 appearances for the Lions in 2017 before joining The Roughyeds ahead of the 2018 League One season, and will now return to the side on a one-year deal.
The 21-year-old came through the ranks at Salford Red Devils after playing his amateur days at Chorley Panthers, Wigan St Pat’s and Wigan St Jude’s. He made 15 appearances for Oldham in 2018.
Littler has worked hard during the off-season, which has seen him take charge of Ireland on international duties, and looks forward to working alongside Jones again.
“I am delighted to see Adam agree to re-join the team,” Littler said.
“Adam is a player who I never wanted to lose as I feel he can be a real strike weapon on an edge. He is tenacious in defence and the opposition will know about it when he hits them. Our pack is really developing and beginning to look quite formidable.
“Again, there was a lot of competition for Adams signature, so I am delighted to finally have this over the mark. Pre-season is nearly upon us and our fans must be excited with our recent captures.”
On his latest move back to the Club, Jones told swintonlionsrlfc.co.uk: “I’ve had offers from a number of other clubs, but I enjoyed my time at Swinton and I’m impressed with the future plans Stuart and Andy [Mazey] have for the club.
“I’m now really looking forward to getting stuck into training and doing my best for the club and fans. I’m really looking forward to working with Stuart again, and can’t wait for the season to start so I can begin helping the team have what promises to be a great season.”
Chairman Andy Mazey added: “I am delighted we’ve managed to finalise a deal after quite a few weeks of negotiation to bring Adam back to Swinton Lions.
“Adam ticks pretty much every box and Stuart never wanted to lose him, unfortunately I just couldn’t quite get there last year with his agent. He is someone Stuart rates very highly and is a strong player both offensively and defensively and has super league potential. He will give us some real strike from our back row.
“Welcome back Adam!”
