LIONS SNAP UP HIGH-FLYING HATTON

05 November 2018

The club is delighted to confirm the signing of prop forward Lewis Hatton from Rochdale Hornets on a two-year deal.

Swinton Lions are delighted to confirm the signing of gifted Prop Forward Lewis Hatton from Rochdale Hornets on a two-year deal with the Club.

Named as the Hornets’ Player of the Year for 2018, the promising 21-year-old makes the short move to Swinton ahead of the 2019 Betfred Championship campaign.

Hatton joined the Hornets on a permanent deal from Super League side Warrington Wolves at the end of the 2017 season, following a successful loan spell where he helped secure the club’s Championship status.

The strong forward also helped Rochdale to maintain their spot in the Championship last season, following a victory over Sheffield Eagles which saw Swinton involved in the late play-off fixture.

On the move to the Lions, Hatton told swintonlionsrlfc.co.uk: “I am very happy to sign with Swinton Lions. It’s a Club with great ethos, and after sitting down with Stuart, I was impressed with the plans for the team.

“I’m really looking forward to working with Stuart and developing my game further.

“I can’t wait to get started and meet the rest of the side in pre-season.”

“LEWIS WILL ADD SOME REAL STEEL INTO OUR PACK”

Another strong addition to the Lions squad, Head Coach Stuart Littler is pleased with the capture of the talented forward. He scored four tries in 25 appearances for the Hornets in 2018.

“I am delighted to be able to announce the signing of Lewis Hatton on a two-year deal with us,” Stuart explained.

“Lewis is a player we targeted pretty early. I feel that Lewis will add some real steel into our pack as the dynamics of our team start to take shape.

“I am really excited by our recent spree of signings and I am really looking forward to getting stuck in and working with these players.

“We are improving our squad daily at the moment, as we look to be complete prior to pre-season training commencing. Our squad is starting to take shape as we look to move forwards in 2019.”

“TO SECURE THE SIGNATURE OF LEWIS, IT IS HUGE FOR US”

On the latest addition to the Lions 2019 squad, Chairman Andy Mazey commented: “I am delighted to conclude another piece of quality business for our Club as Stuart continues to shape our 2019 squad.

“Lewis is a player we targeted having seen first-hand his capabilities this year, so often proving a thorn in our side and it looked at one stage as if it wouldn’t happen as Rochdale made a massive effort to retain him and we had to also fend off other Championship clubs.

“To secure the signature of Lewis, an all-action eighty-minute middle unit who has just won player of the year at a rival Championship club, is huge for us and should demonstrate what is going on right now at Swinton Lions. This should hopefully encourage our supporters to get behind us with a season ticket as we aim to smash our sale records for a second consecutive year and this exciting new era for the lions enters its second year.”
