JACK HANSEN RE-SIGNS WITH THE LIONS

20 October 2018

The club can confirm that Jack Hansen has re-signed with the Lions for the 2019 Betfred Championship season.

Versatile utility-back Jack Hansen has re-signed with Swinton Lions for the 2019 Championship campaign.

The 21-year-old won the ‘Young Player of the Year’ award during the Player’s Presentation night, featuring in all-but-one fixture for the Lions during the 2018 campaign.

The half-back enjoyed a position shift to fullback late on in the season, scoring a stand-out try against Barrow Raiders.

“I’m really happy to be re-signing with Swinton,” Hansen said exclusively.

“Last season was obviously a tough one but for me personally I really enjoyed it. It was my first year in the Championship and a first go at playing some of the top teams.

“I feel that I’ve improved a lot under Stuart and the rest of the coaching staff. I came here low on confidence and doubting myself, but they have brought the best out of me and that was a huge factor for me to stay.

“The Chairman and board of Directors have been great with me also and the way they are promoting Swinton is fantastic, so there is only going to be big things happening to the club and I want to be a part of it.

“I’m looking forward to 2019.”

“2019 WILL BE A BIG YEAR FOR JACK”

On the extension, Swinton Lions Head Coach Stuart Littler added: “Another major cog in our 2019 squad is the re-signing of Jack Hansen.

“Jack is another player who I have worked with for numerous years now. This year has seen Jack become a consistent Championship performer which has led to him being looked at by several other clubs. I am delighted that we have beat off an approach from his home town team which really demonstrates the commitment Jack has to the Swinton Lions Club and also myself as a coach.

“I feel that Hansen has the ability to become a stand-out performer within this league. He is from a rugby league family and has been brought up with a dedication and love of our great game,

“This will only assist with his future development as we strive to get a Jack to the top.

“2019 will be a big year for Jack and I am excited for what that future will bring.”

“HE WILL BECOME ONE OF THE BEST FULLBACKS IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP”

Additionally, Chairman Andy Mazey, who has now helped re-sign both Rhodri Lloyd and talented back Ryan Gray to extended contracts, added: “I am delighted that Jack has chosen to remain a Lion and to continue his progression and development under Stuart, who is clearly bringing the best out of him.

“Stuart believes in Jack and believes he will become one of the best fullbacks in the Championship next year and we are all pleased that he will be wearing the Lions shirt again next year.

“It’s worth noting Jack has attracted plenty of interest from opposition Championship clubs, but indeed turned down an offer from his home club which is a clear indication to our fans the belief we are instilling in players as to the direction our Club is taking as a respectable, sustainable and developing Club.”
