DALEY WILLIAMS JOINS SWINTON LIONS FOR 2019

23 October 2018

Daley Williams has signed a one-year contract with the Lions which will see him join Stuart Littler’s side for the 2019 campaign.

Former Salford Red Devils, Batley Bulldogs and Keighley Cougars utility back Daley Williams has signed a contract with the Swinton Lions for the 2019 Championships season.

Head Coach Stuart Littler has added experience to his young squad, whilst also playing alongside Williams at Salford Red Devils, and was keen to sign the utility player ahead of a competitive 2019.

The 32 year-old joined Hunslet mid-season, and scored three tries in five appearances for the League One side.

“I’m over the moon to be playing for Swinton in the Championship,” said Williams on joining the Club.

“I want to play at the highest standard of rugby I can so I’m glad to be back up there. I’m very greatful to Stuart Littler for giving me the opportunity. I’m looking forward to getting back into training and getting a full preseason under my belt!”

“HE’S A STRONG, ROBUST CENTRE WHO WILL ADD STRIKE TO OUR EDGE”

Swinton Lions head Coach Stuart Littler believes Williams will bring some much-needed experience to the Lions.

“I’m delighted to have secured a deal to bring Daley Williams to Swinton next season. Daley was a promising junior at the back end of my time with Salford as a player.

“He is a strong, robust centre who will add some strike to our edge. Over the years he has developed his game and I am confident we can work with him and facilitate even more development.

“Daley will add some experience to our squad but I do think he has a good few years ahead of him. I am looking forward to seeing Daley in a Lions shirt and am sure the fans will appreciate his all action style.”

“HE WILL BE A GREAT ASSET TO STUART”

Chairman Andy Mazey is delighted to bring in Williams, his first new signing of the off-season.

“It’s exciting times as the class of 2019 continues to take shape. Stuart is held in high regard by players he’s played with and against and clearly Daley wanted to come and play for him and he brings a wealth of experience to a relatively young backline.

“On a personal level, I have admired Daley while watching him playing against teams I’ve been involved with in the past and he can terrorise teams on the edge and is a big strong centre. I’m sure he will be a great asset to Stuart and the staff. Welcome to the Lions, Daley.”
