DIGBY SIGNS FOR 2020

24 October 2019

Swinton Lions RLFC is pleased to announce that Joe Digby has signed a new contract with the club.

The club is delighted to announce that youngster Joe Digby has signed a new contract for the 2020 Betfred Championship season.

Digby joined ahead of the 2019 season and was the second signing from Leigh Miners, following the arrival of second-rower Frankie Halton. Both were part of the squad that earned the side promotion back to the National Conference Premier Division.

The outside-back was unfortunate to suffer an injury early on in the season in 2019 and is yet to make his debut for the Lions.

On the extension, Digby said: “Last season was difficult due to injury but I am excited to have another opportunity at the club. I feel stronger than ever and can’t wait to get started with the lads.”

The 20-year-old becomes the third re-signing this week, with both Richard Lepori and Deane Meadows also agreeing to new one-year deals.

Head coach Stuart Littler added: “Joe did not get any game time last year due to an unfortunate shoulder injury during pre-season.

“He still has all the qualities that first attracted us to him and I know him well after coaching him previously as a junior within the college leagues.

“Joe is now nearing full fitness so will be looking for an impressive pre-season. We are all looking forward to seeing him out on the pitch and seeing just exactly what he can do.

“The youngster has really worked hard on his rehab and with some smart medical work we should see him on the field soon.

“Can I also thank our medical and rehab staff for their support with Joe. We need to be sensible currently and make sure everything is 100% before engaging in anything major.”
