PREVIEW: SWINTON LIONS V BARROW RAIDERS

It’s Family Fun Day this weekend at Heywood Road, with tickets slashed to just £10 and kids free as the Lions face Barrow Raiders.

Swinton Lions host Barrow Raiders in round 22 of the Betfred Championship as the club celebrates ‘Family Fun Day’.

It’s battle of 9th vs 13th as the Raiders travel to Heywood Road, with plenty happening at Heywood Road.

Tickets are at the special price of £10 and kids FREE, with Live Music, Arts and Crafts and a Bouncy Castle at Heywood Road on Sunday.

FORM GUIDE

Stuart Littler’s side have picked up five points out of a possible six in the last three fixtures, including victories over Rochdale Hornets and Batley Bulldogs, whilst the team most recently drew with John Kear’s Bradford Bulls at Odsal Stadium.

The Lions led for the majority of the game, including a 22-18 lead at the half-time break, but late tries from Matty Ashton and Connor Farrell for the Bulls saw the two sides share the spoils with a 34-34 scoreboard.

Richard Lepori and Samy Kibula both crossed for their first tries in Swinton colours, whilst teammates Gavin Bennion, Harry Smith and Matty Ashton also crossed for four-pointers, with the latter claiming the Try of the Week on the OurLeague app.

Barrow most recently played hosts to in-form Leigh Centurions, with the visitors claiming the league points with a 24-8 victory.

The Raiders have two wins in their last six fixtures, with the last victory coming against Featherstone Rovers with an impressive 38-16 success at the LD Nutrition Stadium.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Swinton are undefeated in their last four home meetings with Barrow, having won three and drawn one. The Raiders’ last away victory against the Lions was a 32-12 National League Two win at Park Lane, Sedgley Park, on 23 August, 2008.

The sides last met in March, as the Lions claimed their first win of the season at the Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium over Barrow Raiders.

Tries from Liam Forsyth, Mike Butt, Jack Hansen, Gavin Bennion and Liam Paisley, and a drop goal from Oscar Thomas, saw the side claim a 33-26 victory.

Mike Butt returns after his one match suspension, whilst Nick Gregson is included for the first time after joining the Lions for the remainder of the 2019 season.

Paddy Jones is also included fresh after signing his new contract extension with the Lions for the 2020 season.
