SWINTON LIONS REVEAL NEW CLUB LOGO

07 October 2017

We are very proud to reveal the new Swinton Lions club logo, which we are sure will win approval from Swinton supporters everywhere.

Operations Director Steve Wild explained the reasoning behind the new logo: “The club is entering a fresh era, one of sustainability, professionalism and (we hope!) excitement of the right kind. The Board therefore felt it appropriate that this ‘new beginning’ should be reflected through something visual, and in that respect the club badge was the obvious place to start.

The new logo has been designed in consultation with Lions’ fans, whose valuable feedback has been incorporated into the final version. In particular, fans were keen to see “RLFC” added to our name.

The badge acknowledges our proud heritage, with a traditional heraldic rampant lion, the year of our formation, and six gold stars which pay tribute to our record of six Rugby League Championships, won under the captaincies of the immortal Hector Halsall, Bryn Evans and Albert Blan.

The incorporation of the word ‘Manchester’ reflects our pride in being part of the Greater Manchester conurbation. It is a geographical statement and not a political one, as we remain indebted to the ongoing support of Salford City Council. We will never betray our Swinton Lions title, but in the modern world we also need to be mindful of marketing opportunities and presenting a clear identity. We therefore feel that the logo is forward-looking as well as being respectful of our history.

The new logo will appear on all our 2018 playing kit and merchandise, and it will soon be seen across all our social media and website platforms in the coming weeks. The Board would like to thank Jamie Ryan for his work on the design, and we hope that all our fans will be appreciative of the logo.”
