Paul Sculthorpe in Swinton to support Lions’ World Cup legacy programme!

24 March 2021

Earlier today the Lions’ Foundation welcomed Rugby League Legend Paul Sculthorpe to its Swinton office as he kindly delivered “Created by the Rugby League World Cup” legacy programme equipment.

This first rate junior training equipment was supplied by Rhino Sports and it will greatly enhance the Lions’ community delivery moving forward.

Lions’ Foundation Director, Damian Ridpath, said “It was great to see Paul, a true legend of Rugby League, at our club offices, delivering the equipment that we were successfully awarded in our recent Rugby League World Cup Legacy Bid. As the covid restrictions are steadily eased, our community staff will be out in the community starting with the Easter holidays delivering much needed activity to young people.

“The Swinton Lions Foundation will be rolling out a full programme of development work across communities of Greater Manchester throughout 2021 and beyond. Next week our Lionesses, who were formed successfully despite the national pandemic, will meet in person for the first time after months of online training and meetings. The Lionesses’ first on-field training session will take place next Wednesday evening at the AJ Bell Stadium with a 6.30pm arrival for a 7pm start. The Lionesses will therefore be utilising the same training venue as the Lions, with access to the bespoke club gym which is also on site.

“Throughout the coming months we will also be delivering our Jose Kenga Diversity and Inclusion Programme whilst supporting the Rugby League “Tackle It” programme. Furthermore, we will be creating three new junior teams within the Borough of Trafford by early summer.”

If you are interested in supporting our community programmes, or would just like further information on how to get involved as a participant or volunteer, please do not hesitate to contact the Lions’ Director of Development at damian.ridpath@swintonlionsrlfc.co.uk.
