SEASON TICKETS NOW ON SALE!

Swinton Lions 2023 Season Tickets are now on sale as we mark our return to the BetFred Championship following our dramatic play-off final victory last month!

Season Tickets cover all of our league matches , with the exception of our Executive Season Ticket which may also be utilised for home friendlies and home cup ties. Executive Tickets also include a two-course pre-match corporate lunch, as well as guaranteed onsite complimentary car parking.

Under 16s can apply for a FREE season ticket , whilst we are also re-introducing Concessionary charges for the over 65s.

Match day only supporters will be able to take advantage of a £2 discount by purchasing advanced online tickets – this being intended to promote easier access on the gate with average crowds anticipated to rise by around 50%.

Whatever your chosen method of ticket and support, 2023 is sure to provide us with a stern but exciting challenge, and Allan and the squad, and indeed all of us at the club, would love you to share the journey!

Jayden Hatton has become the late Lion to put pen to contract and sign again for 2023!

The winger or centre joined Swinton from his home town club Widnes Vikings early in 2022, and went on to score 6 tries in 14 appearances during our promotion season.

After signing his new contract Jayden said, “2022 was an up and down season for me with injuries, but we achieved what we wanted to by gaining promotion. Since joining the Lions I can’t speak highly enough about the club and I’m very pleased to be staying another year. I’m really looking forward to seeing what next season holds for us and I’m raring to go!”

Head Coach Allan Coleman, “It’s great to get Jayden signed again. I thought he was outstanding for us last year and I know he will be even better next season. He has a great attitude and desire to improve and we can’t wait to see Jayden go from strength to strength in 2023.”

GAVIN BENNION MAKES WELCOME SWINTON LIONS RETURN!

Big middle Gavin Bennion will need no introduction to Swinton fans as we welcome him back to Heywood Road!

Gavin made his original debut for the Lions back in 2013 whilst on DR from Warrington, and he  returned to us in 2018 on a permanent deal following spells at Halifax and Salford. The Covid situation in 2020 did of course abruptly curtail matters for everyone, but post-pandemic he spent two seasons with local rivals Rochdale Hornets.

Still only 28 years old, 6 foot 4 inches tall Gavin has undoubted class which has already been proven at Championship level, particularly when he scored 9 tries in 26 appearances for Swinton during the 2019 season.

Gavin has also featured of course for Wales during the current World Cup, and is now eager for another dig at the Championship!

Gavin was interviewed earlier this week when he called in at our AJ Bell Stadium training base. Hear what he had to say about returning to the club!

ANTHONY DYNE SWAPS COUGARS FOR LIONS!

Swinton Lions RLFC is delighted to announce the signing of the former Keighley Cougars winger Anthony Dyne.

Anthony hails from Middlesbrough and played his early rugby league in the Academy system at Newcastle Thunder, as well as within both the Northumbria and England Universities set ups.

Having spent a year over in France with Montpellier Sharks to further his development, Anthony returned to the UK to sign for Keighley Cougars as they pushed for promotion in opposition to the Lions in season 2022.

Anthony plays mainly on the wing and stands a huge 6 feet 5, but his party piece is to score spectacular tries at the corner flag. Anthony is a player with enormous flair and promise, and is a welcome addition to the Lions’ 2023 squad.

JAKE SPEDDING TO ADD STRENGTH TO LIONS’ BACK LINE!

At Swinton Lions we are delighted to announce that Jake Spedding has joined the club ahead of our 2023 Championship campaign!

Although born at Leeds, Jake began his professional career with St Helens six years ago, and then played 20 games for Featherstone Rovers in 2019. However, he has spent the last three seasons with Widnes Vikings.

Jake stands 6 foot 1 and can play centre or wing, and will bring experience and strength to the Lions’ back-line in 2023.

Once again the club would like to acknowledge the invaluable contribution of Pride Builder members in helping to ensure Jake’s arrival at Swinton.

Former Folly youngster Openshaw joins the Lions!

Our latest signing Jonny Openshaw might already be well known to many of our supporters, as he cut his teeth in junior community rugby league with our local amateur side, Folly Lane. After leaving Folly he moved on to Leigh Miners Rangers, from where he was also selected for the England Community Lions under 20s side.

Jonny, a 20 years old hooker, lives a stone’s throw away from our AJ Bell Stadium training base, and it was at Salford Reds where he gained his foothold into the professional game. Last season he spent time on loan at Oldham, before now signing for the Lions ahead of 2023.

Promising Burgess joins the Lions!

We are delighted to announce the signing of forward Morgan Burgess.

 

Morgan, who is 20 years old, played his junior rugby league at his local club Barrow Island. A former England Youth international, he was then signed by Warrington Wolves.

 

Morgan spent a period in 2022 playing at DR partners Widnes Vikings, and he now comes to the Lions with huge promise.

Half-Back Gibson joins the Lions!

At Swinton Lions we are thrilled to confirm the signing of half-back Jordan Gibson, who joins the club from North Wales Crusaders.

Swinton fans won’t need reminding of Jordan’s abilities, as he was a key factor in the Crusaders’ two victories at Heywood Road earlier this year.

30 years old Jordan is a native of St Helen’s, and emerged through the community game at Haydock ARLFC before signing professional terms with Crusaders.

One of the stand out players in League 1 over recent seasons, he will bring organisational and leadership qualities to the Lions’ 2023 squad.

Rising star Andrew Badrock joins the Lions!

The Leigh Miners Rangers young star, Andrew Badrock, has become the latest player to sign for Swinton Lions ahead of season 2023!

Andrew turned 22 years old last month, and primarily plays at centre or in the back-row. He is already well-known to the Lions’ Head Coach, having featured for Allan Coleman’s England Community Lions team. There is also the Leigh Miners Rangers connection with Allan and Swinton assistant coach Tom Wood, and indeed Andrew played against the Lions for Miners in the Challenge Cup a couple of years ago.
