Swinton Lions are pleased to announce the signing of strong utility back Ryan Gray on a professional contract.

The versatile back currently appears for Leigh East ARLFC, but after a successful stint in training with the Lions, the young player has signed a professional contract with the Club.

20-year-old Gray is a quick, strong back who has great attitude and has played representative rugby league, including England Lions’ tour to Canada.

On the signing, Club Chairman Andy Mazey said: “We are delighted to welcome Ryan to the Lions and this is further indication that whilst we have been working hard recently to strength the squad ready for a big push and finish to 2018, we are also looking further ahead and investing in young talent for the future.

“Ryan is a tall and rangy fullback or winger and is a good athlete who has represented his county and country and is a player Stuart knows well having coached him at scholarship level and someone he is keen to work with and develop.

“It’s encouraging for me that talented young players, not just from our own community, but from all over, now want to come and sign for Swinton Lions.

“We are clearly a club that is progressive and allows players to showcase their talent. I’m delighted Ryan has signed his first professional contract with Swinton having been training with the club for a number of weeks, giving Stuart and the staff plenty of opportunity to have a close look at him.

“I’d like to thank Martin Roden at Leigh East club for his support.”
