LIONS MOURN LOSS OF DAVE NICHOLSON

25 January 2021

It is with a heavy heart that we confirm the sad news that Lion DAVE NICHOLSON has passed away suddenly.

Dave, a strong running second-row, joined the Lions from Blackbrook ARLFC after returning from the pioneering BARLA Open Age Tour of Papua New Guinea, Australia and New Zealand. Folly Lane’s Bernard Southern was a teammate on that Tour.

Dave made his debut for the Lions in September 1979, and went on to play a total of 31 games and score 8 tries, before Frank Myler took Dave and Alan Taylor to Oldham at the end of the 1980/81 season.

One of the most popular of players and the nicest lad you could wish to meet, Dave had lived on the Isle of Man for many years where he continued his hobby of breeding canaries.

Dave’s passing is indeed a terrible shock, but for all of us who knew him on both sides of the touchline, it has been a true privilege to have shared a part of his life.

Our hearts go out to Lesley, Joyce, Geri and family at this sad, sad time. God Bless you Dave, RIP.

We are grateful to Steve Moyse for providing these words.
