LIONS LAND HALF-BACK GREEN FOR 2021

31 July 2020

Swinton Lions are delighted to announce that half-back Cobi Green has joined the club for the 2021 season.

Our latest arrival at Heywood Road is half-back Cobi Green, who joins the Lions from Bradford Bulls for the 2021 season.

21- year-old Cobi entered the limelight late in 2019 when he was selected for Wales at the World Nines tournament in Sydney.

It was a chance he grasped with both hands and he produced some confident and polished performances. A former captain of the Wales under 19 side, Cobi shows all the hallmarks of a potential star in the making.

‘HE HAS A HIGH SKILL-SET, I’M EXCITED TO WORK WITH HIM’

Head Coach Stuart Littler explained that Cobi’s arrival is very much in line with the club’s established recruitment policy. He said, “A big warm welcome to Cobi from us all within the Swinton Lions family. Cobi is another exciting prospect who recently proudly represented Wales in the same World Nines team as Rhodri Lloyd and Mike Butt.

“Cobi certainly held his own out in Australia and is an exciting half-back who is keen to take on the line and promote space for others. He has a very high skill-set and I am really excited to get the opportunity to work with him.

“He fits the mould of a young player keen to develop whilst also aiming to play at the highest standard he can.

“By recruiting players with ambition and drive we are hopeful that we can nurture their talent and facilitate further growth and development by competing consistently at a higher standard. Cobi has his own personal goals and we are happy to support them as he strives to become the best possible version of himself.

Our club has a healthy link with Welsh internationals and we are delighted to add Cobi to this ever growing list.”

Watch Cobi combine with Lions winger Mike Butt to help Wales score a try against Lebanon World Nines tournament in 2019.

‘THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR ME’

Cobi Green on signing for Swinton, added, “Firstly I’d like to thank Bradford Bulls for my time at the club. But this is now a new challenge and I’m really looking forward to joining Swinton Lions and I feel as though I can add something to the playing squad.

“This is a great opportunity for me to develop and gain some quality game time. I’d like to thank Stuart and the Swinton Lions club for providing me with this opportunity, and I’d also like to thank my family and friends for their continuous support.”
