LIONS ADD YOUNG WINGER ELLIOTT CAINE TO SQUAD

23 November 2017

The club is delighted to announce the signing of young winger Elliot Caine.

After being brought up in the Derbyshire area you might think Elliott’s chances would be limited in terms of development opportunities, but such was his determination to succeed that he joined the Blackbrook club in St Helens as a youngster and made the regular commute.

He was then offered a scholarship with Castleford Tigers, before moving on to the Salford Reds Academy. Then after leaving the AJ Bell Stadium he had a hugely successful spell with Wakefield Trinity Academy, and it’s from Belle Vue that he has joined the Lions.

The 19-year-old is a tough and talented winger. His 100 metres has been timed at under 11 seconds, but speed is not his only asset. Elliott is happy to come inside and take the ball up to the opposition line, whilst he’s solid on defence and dependable under the high ball. He’s also got an eye for an interception, and has a decent off-load game. So all-round, we believe Elliott is a tremendous prospect!

Head Coach Stuart Littler said of his latest signing, “The potential in Elliott is huge and after meeting with him and his family we moved quickly to secure his signature. Elliott has already adapted to life with us well and is very keen to learn and develop.

“This is a massive opportunity for Elliott to carve out a future in high level Rugby League and I feel sure he will want to grasp that opportunity. As a club we aim to play a significant part in his development, but Elliott’s attitude will take him a long way.”

Elliott was thrilled at putting pen to paper with Swinton. He said, “After meeting Stuart it was clear that he had a blank canvas as the new coach to make this team his own, and I therefore saw this as a fantastic opportunity to be part of something special. The 2018 Championship competition looks to be both tough and exciting, but I aim to be fully ready for it.

“I feel privileged to become part of the Swinton Lions squad and proud to be playing for such a famous Lancashire team.  I would just like to thank Stuart Littler and club Chairman Andy Mazey and his Board for giving me this outstanding opportunity.”
