Lionesses victorious as they await season opener!

04 May 2021

Swinton Lionesses under 16s play their first competitive game this forthcoming Saturday with an away match against Leigh Miners Under 16s in Division 1 West.

Lions’ Director of Development, Damian Ridpath said, “It is fantastic that the team formed through lockdown have come this far to already be part of a competitive environment.

“The girls are really looking forward to testing themselves against Leigh Miners and will certainly enjoy the occasion. The Lionesses are one of five teams in the Division 1 West and will play fixtures home and away over the summer months with the season concluding in September.”

“Although we all want to support the Lionesses, please remember that Covid regulations are in place for the community game and that only one parent per player can attend games currently. Once the restrictions are lifted or relaxed, we will ensure that the Lionesses will get the opportunity to play a curtain raiser at Heywood Road ahead of a Lions game.”

Our Open Age Women’s team will be making their debut against Fryston Warriors of Castleford on the 21st May, and further details will be provided nearer the time.

The club is still recruiting players, so if you are interested in playing for our under 16s or our open age teams please don’t hesitate to contact the club via [email protected].

Meanwhile last weekend, the Lionesses put in a fantastic performance in their second friendly to win 44-14 against a Wibsey team that were very competitive and never gave up throughout.

The Lionesses scored a number of fantastic tries and came away from their Folly Lane base with a great confidence booster ahead of their upcoming encounter with Leigh Miners.
