Lionesses outstanding again!

24 June 2021

The Lionesses Under 16s were again in outstanding form last night as they overcame an enthusiastic Leigh Miners Golds team by a score of 78-8. The action took place on a pleasant evening at Folly Lane’s Blue Ribbon Field in Pendlebury, which the Lionesses are fast turning into something of a fortress.

Twice in as many first-half minutes Ellie Thirkell fielded kick-offs and ran through to score under the posts, and by the interval the Lionesses had built up a commanding lead.

In the second-half impressive powerful running from Ruth Boamah and Maddie Corrigan brought them each a hat-trick of tries, whilst Maddie Higson and Ellie Thirkell went one by better with four tries apiece.

Every Lioness played her part in a very polished performance, but special mentions for Chloe Birkett who was exceptional on her debut, and for Maddie Higson who not only tackled tenaciously throughout, but scored 34 individual points.

A word also for the Leigh Miners team, who never gave up and scored two fine tries of their own in response.

Lionesses :

Eve Ashcroft (1 try); Chloe Birkett; Ruth Boamah (3 tries); Maddie Corrigan (3 tries); Emily Haley; Maddie Higson (4 tries and 9 goals); Skye Johnson; Sophie Martins-Fetherston; Abbie Parkes-Holden; Mollie Scotson; Catherine Sweeney; Ellie Thirkell (4 tries).
