LEPORI EXTENDS CONTRACT TO 2021

02 August 2020

Swinton Lions are delighted to announce that Richard Lepori has agreed a new one-year deal with the club for the 2021 season.

Italian international winger Richard Lepori has become the latest Lion to commit himself to our upcoming 2021 campaign.

Richard arrived at the Lions half-way through the 2019 campaign, making his debut against Toronto Wolfpack at Heywood Road in early June. He scored his first Swinton try in the memorable 34-34 draw at Bradford, and added two more when the Lions comfortably beat Halifax towards the end of the season.

Bringing his experience to useful effect within a young Lions’ team, the 28-year-old has scored 5 tries in 14 appearances in a Swinton shirt.

‘HE HAS A HIGH ENERGY OUTPUT AND WORK RATE’

Head Coach Stuart Littler commented, “This is yet another bit of absolutely outstanding news, because Richard has been up there with our most consistent performers.

“He has really bought into our culture, and he drives his own standards and our team’s social capital upwards with his positivity.

“Richard is another player who has high goals and aims to achieve success at next year’s World Cup with Italy.

“He pushes himself very hard every week and has a high energy output and work rate. He is consistently effective at enabling us to start our sets on the front foot. These energy levels cannot be underestimated and everyone within our group is happy that Richard has signed again.”

Richard Lepori responded, “I’m very pleased to have signed on for another year and hopefully we can have a big off season and go again. Obviously we are all gutted that the current campaign has been cancelled. The playing group and staff were excited about the season and seeing how far we could progress from last year.

“Personally, I’ve enjoyed my time at the club. There are a lot of good people at Swinton Lions and I’m glad it’s all tied up now. Also for me personally 2021 is a big year and I have some goals that I want to achieve both on and off the field.

“I’m already really looking forward to getting back to training and I’m hoping to have a big season!”
