Impressive Lionesses seek more recruits!

08 May 2021

Swinton Lionesses Under 16s hit top form in their opening league encounter on Saturday morning away to neighbours Leigh Miners Golds Under 16s.

Ruth Boamah top scored with four tries, as the Lionesses eventually amassed 13 tries in a 62-4 victory, having led 28-0 at half-time.

The conditions were wet and slippery, but the ball-handling of both teams was a credit given the unseasonal weather. The Leigh team played much better than the score suggests, and their consolation try was richly deserved.

However, nothing can be taken away from the Lionesses who were impressive from beginning to end, with finishing power and solid defence demonstrated throughout the full hour.

The Lionesses lined up as follows: Maddie Higson (2 tries, 5 goals); Ruth Boamah (4 tries); Eve Ashcroft (1 try); Mollie Scotson; Catherine Sweeney (1 try); Ellie Thirkell (2 tries); Patrycja Baranek (1 try); Sophie Martins-Fetherston (1 try); Abbie Parkes-Holden; Emily Haley (1 try).

In the meantime the Lionesses are still looking for more recruits (from School Year 7, right up to open age women’s), so anyone wishing to give Rugby League a go, and be part of an emerging and very special group, is urged to contact assistant coach Steve Thirkell on 07821 144498 or Director of Development Damian Ridpath at [email protected] The level of previous experience is not important, just come and enjoy the game under the guidance of our highly experienced and qualified coaching staff!

Training nights are :

Monday evenings: Folly Lane ARLFC, Fraser Street, Pendlebury 6.30pm-7.45pm.

Wednesday evenings: AJ Bell Stadium 7pm-8pm (where the Lionesses share the same facilities as used by the Swinton Lions men’s team).

Matches usually take place on a Saturday morning.

Go Lionesses !!!
