FORSYTH SIGNS TWO-YEAR DEAL WITH SWINTON

28 August 2020

Swinton Lions are delighted to announce the signing of centre Liam Forsyth on a two-year deal with the club.

Swinton Lions are thrilled to announce the signing of centre Liam Forsyth, who will be joining the club from Leigh Centurions ahead of the 2021 season on a two-year deal.

Liam, 24, will already be well known to Swinton fans following his highly successful appearances for the Lions whilst on dual-registration from Wigan Warrirors between 2017 and 2019.

During his DR period with the Lions he scored 12 tries in 24 appearances, with the highlights arguably being his two tries at Barrow last season when the Lions won 33-26 to begin our ascent up the league table, and the scoring of a crucial try at Odsal against Bradford in August 2017 where the Lions won for the first time in 60 years.

Before that Liam had a spell at Bath RUFC, before joining Wigan in 2017. He went on to make 14 appearances at Super League level during which he scored 3 tries. Liam then joined Leigh at the start of the current season and grabbed 10 tries in 10 outings ahead of lockdown and his switch to Heywood Road.

After signing his contract at the club’s new Swinton office, Liam Forsyth said, “I’m buzzing to have joined the Lions and I’m really looking forward to getting back involved and playing under Stuart and Allan. It will be good to be back in training with some old mates mixed in with a few new faces. The squad is looking very strong so I’m excited about what we can do over the next couple of years with the support of the fans.”

“A BIG SIGNING FOR THE CLUB”

Lions’ Head Coach Stuart Littler was absolutely delighted with Swinton’s latest arrival. He said, “The signing of Liam Forsyth is an outstanding capture for our club. Liam is an exceptional strike centre who has a very high try scoring ratio per games played, both whilst he was with us previously on dual registration from Wigan and throughout his time at Leigh. He is at the right age and has a very bright future ahead of him.

“Liam has been involved in full-time and high-class environments throughout his career so far. He is another player who has played at Super League level and that experience will be a real bonus within our playing group. This really is a big signing for our club and one we have worked very hard on to make happen.

“On that note I would like to thank our Board for their support in getting this deal done. Our recruitment has also been greatly helped by the outstanding generosity of our loyal supporters, season ticket holders and sponsors following the cancellation of the 2020 season.

“Massive recognition is also due to our Pride Builder fund from which members’ donations have supported Liam’s arrival. Pride Builder is a brilliant concept and one which is clearly paying dividends. As a club we are on a positive journey together and we are really excited about where we are going.

“Liam’s signing demonstrates our ambition as a club and where we want to take it.  I hope our fans are as excited by this signing as I am, and hopefully we’ll be back playing in front of you soon. Welcome Liam!”
