FANTASTIC START FOR YOUNG LIONS’ DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM!

30 September 2021

Swinton Lions Rugby League Club launched its Young Lions Development Program yesterday evening at the AJ Bell Stadium.

It was a highly successful launch, attended by 68 young people, which included 50 boys and 18 girls aged between 12 and 16.

The sessions were led by Dougie Owen, the Swinton Lions Head of Youth Development, and he was assisted by Gareth Pratt of the Lions’ Foundation, Daryl Fairhurst from Folly Lane ARLFC, together with Swinton Lionesses coaches Martina Greenwood and Steve Thirkell.

The Swinton Lions Director of Development, Damian Ridpath, said, “I was thrilled that so many young people from across Greater Manchester and Cheshire were in attendance. This was the first session of our England Talent Pathway Program and it was great to see so many young people enjoying our professionally delivered coaching sessions. Alongside the on-field coaching, we also delivered three informative seminars in order to engage and inform the parents about the aims and objectives of the project. It was also a bonus to receive some really positive feedback from both the children and parents, as we look forward to delivering more of these sessions on the last Wednesday of each month moving forwards.”

The Young Lions Development Program is open access for all, so if you wish to sign your child up for future sessions then please don’t hesitate to complete on the online form via this link:- https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeX-CiYChwIFzs3oqXbECQcuP_F0zlKOPLXhtMX82MBhDVHfg/viewform
