Dougie back in the Lions’ Den!

At Swinton Lions we are delighted to welcome back the versatile Lewis Charnock into the club. “Dougie”, who now goes by the surname “Hall”, was undoubtedly one of our success stories during our 2022 promotion season. Always playing with total determination and on the front-foot, he was a great favourite amongst the Swinton faithful. Indeed he finished a very close 4th in the supporters’ Player of the Year vote.

At the end of the 2022 season Lewis announced his intention to retire from the sport, and despite our disappointment he departed with our very best wishes for the future. However, such was his love for rugby league and for Swinton Lions, he began to ponder his decision. He kept in touch with us, and maintained a good level of fitness, and now we are thrilled to be able to offer him a new contract for the remainder of the 2023 season.

Lewis told us, “My time off in ‘retirement’ gave me time to reflect and it made me realise I’m not ready to give up playing. If anything, the time away has made me even more determined to come back better. I’m looking forward to getting back out there and I would like to thank Allan and the all the staff, players and Board at the Lions for welcoming me back.”

Given Dougie’s pedigree and our current injury crisis, his return is especially welcome and valuable, and no doubt he will be in Head Coach Allan Coleman’s thoughts for our cup trip to Barrow at the weekend.
