Swinton Lions can confirm the departure of Josh Barlow and Tommy Gallagher from the club.
Swinton Lions can confirm the departure of forward Josh Barlow and Assistant Head Coach Tommy Gallagher from the club.
Josh Barlow leaves the club by mutual consent and the Board of Directors and staff would like to go on record thanking Josh for his all his efforts in a Lions shirt.
Tommy Gallagher has also departed the club having returned to the Lions as Assistant Head Coach in October 2017. The fan favourite also came out of retirement and registered to play when Stuart Littler was struggling for numbers, making three appearances. Gallagher had previously retired from playing rugby league in 2015, following his part in the promotion-winning season that took Swinton back to the Championship at the first attempt, where he scored eight tries in 22 appearances. The club also wishes Tommy the best for the future.
Swinton Lions Head Coach Stuart Littler expressed his gratitude to his friend, “I would like to thank Tommy Gallagher for all his hard work and commitment over the last year with us on the staff at Swinton Lions. I don’t think I have ever heard anyone say a bad word about Tommy.
“Tommy is a personal friend and will continue to be a good friend. Circumstances change in Rugby League, as in life and I personally wish Tommy all the best with his coaching and will always be available to him if he needs me.”
Lions Chairman Andy Mazey also added, “On behalf of the board I would like to thank Tommy for his efforts and wish him and his family well for the future. Tommy came to the club at a difficult time for the club as we began rebuilding this time last year.
“Tommy came to coach but at a point when we struggled for numbers and experience in the middle in a difficult year he put his hand up and registered as a player and I will never forget that. He will always be made welcome here at Swinton and leaves the club on great terms with our upmost respect and thanks.”
