Ashton Bears Ladies U16’s 10-42 Swinton Lionesses U16’s

Swinton Lionesses U16s continued their impressive form on Wednesday night beating Ashton Bears Ladies U16s 42-10.

Chloe Birkett put the team ahead after only five minutes going over on the right after some good pressure on the line but Maddie Higson could not convert.

Just five minutes later Higson raced sixty metres after evading a couple of tackles to score under the posts also adding the conversion. She then added a second a few minutes later after a Bears handling error and again she raced away to score under the posts also adding the conversion to put the Lionesses into a great lead after fourteen minutes.

Eve Ashcroft then added the fourth try when she went twenty metres from a play the ball to score under the posts and again Maddie Higson was on target with the conversion as the Bears defence had no answers to anything being thrown at them. Three minutes from the break they were in again when Emily Haley crossed from close range but with Higson off for treatment the conversion was missed by the try scorer.

The Bears struck back when they scored by the posts and this was converted to give them a brief glimmer of hope that they could spark something but that was soon put to rest when Maddie Corrigan scored on the left and Higson converted this one.

Patrycja Baranek added the next try on fifty-six minutes when she went over on the left, but this conversion was missed. Maddie Corrigan then went through a gap and raced thirty metres to score by the posts and this one was converted but it was the Bears who scored the last try when the hooker went over by the posts in the virtual darkness, and she could not convert her own try as the final whistle sounded to mark another good victory for the young Lionesses.
