Adam Lawton has joined the Lions on an initial one-month loan from Super League outfit Salford Red Devils.
Swinton Lions have signed powerful forward Adam Lawton from Salford Red Devils on an initial one-month loan.
The former Widnes Vikings forward will bring power and strength to Stuart Littler’s side, who return to Heywood Road this Sunday.
Lawton made his professional debut in 2014 for the Vikings, scoring nine tries in 15 appearances. The 25-year-old also had a stint with Australian side Redcliffe Dolphins, whilst he has also featured for the Rochdale Hornets in 2019, scoring three tries in as many appearances.
On the latest signing, Head Coach Littler said: “It’s awesome to be able to add a bit more size to our pack.
“Since the unfortunate injury to Jamie Acton, it has been identified as a position where we required another number. Ahead of Easter, a lot of channels were blocked due to the schedule, but now we are through the other side of it and we are in a position to add Adam on loan.
“Adam will add size and will also increase competition for places in our close knit squad. We have some big games around the corner and need to go into these in the best possible way.
“Can I also thank our Chairman, Andy Mazey, for his backing on this one and also the board and Pride Builder.”
The loan has been assisted by Swinton’s Pride Builder, who have been fantastic for the side in 2019.
“Following on from sponsoring fan’s favourite Gavin Bennion, Pride Builder Fund is delighted to assist the club on bringing in another ‘Big Hitter’ in Adam Lawton to boost the tremendous pack we already have,” a representative said.
“Welcome to the Pride Adam. This once again highlights what can be achieved when the fans rally round in support of the club.”

Swinton Lions Chairman Andy Mazey added: “We’ve had some terrible luck with injuries this year, particularly to our middle losing experienced Championship campaigners like Will Hope, Benny Austin and most recently Jamie Acton to long term injuries.
“With this in mind, Stuart has been keen to strengthen this area and we have been in talks with a number of club’s, players and agents for a number of weeks. Stuart identified Adam as a player who could really add some additional size, power and quality so I’m therefore delighted to have been able to secure his services.
“I’d like to thank everyone who has contributed to Pride Builder so far as without your efforts this signing would not have been possible.
“I’d also like to thank Graeme Taylor, Adam’s agent, and the two Ians, Blease and Watson, for helping make the move possible.
“Welcome to the Lions, Adam”.
Lawton could make his debut this Sunday, as Swinton take on the Widnes Vikings in the Betfred Championship with a 3:00pm kick off. Tickets will be available at the gate on the day.
