2019 CHAMPIONSHIP FIXTURES ANNOUNCED

25 November 2018

The new season is almost upon us! The RFL have announced the fixture list for the 2019 Betfred Championship.

The 2019 Betfred Championship fixtures have been announced by the Rugby Football League for the forthcoming season.

Following the confirmation of the new league structure in September, the Championship will in 2019 be contested by 14 teams – up from 12 previously.

Swinton Lions cemented their place in rugby league’s second tier following victory in a playoff game against League 1 outfit Workington Town last October. Reward for their success sees Stuart Littler’s men open and end the new campaign against Sheffield Eagles, kicking off the season at the The Olympic Legacy Park on 3 February followed by the season closer at Heywood Road on 8 September.

The loyal Lions fanbase have been heralded for their good spirit and support on the road and can look forward to aways days to Toulouse on 6 June and Toronto (April date to be confirmed). The return legs at the Lions’ Den taking place on 24 February and 9 June respectively.

Please note: the date and venue for the away game at Toronto Wolfpack remains unconfirmed. All Swinton fans are urged not to book packages to Canada until the matter is resolved – hopefully within the next two weeks. As soon as we have any further information it will be announced via our official channels.

Local rivals Rochdale provide opposition on three occasions in 2019 with a few new signings set to face their former club. Swinton play host on 19 April before facing off again at the Summer Bash in Blackpool just under a month later on 18 May. The third and final clash against the Hornets takes place at the Crown Oil Arena on 30 June.

Fresh to this year’s competition, York City Knights will welcome the Lions on 7 April and can look forward to a trip to Heywood Road on 23 June. Bradford Bulls also make a return to the second tier next year, travelling to the Lions in Round 2 on 10 February, followed by the clash at Odsal on 14 July. Recently relegated Widnes Vikings provide stiff competition on 5 May and in the penultimate Championship fixture on 1 October.

Outside of league action in the Championship, the three-time Challenge Cup winners will start their campaign in the famous competition at the fourth-round stage on 31 March and make their bow in the inaugural 1895 Cup in the first-round on 6 June.

Familiar opposition for the Lions will also come in the form of Batley Bulldogs, Barrow Raiders, Dewsbury Rams, Featherstone Rovers, Halifax, Leigh Centurions and Sheffield Eagles. Scroll to the bottom of this page for a full list of fixtures.
