It was a record-breaking night for the Manchester Swinton Lionesses as they scored their highest number of points in a game and the biggest winning margin with an emphatic display against derby rivals Salford.
It didn’t take long for the Lionesses to score. A Salford attack ended with a kick. The ball was taken by Kerrie Evans who broke through the defence to go on a 40-metre run, The ball was moved inside to Tamika Bull who went over to score. Maddie Higson was unable to convert. The Lionesses lost the ball from the restart. This gave Salford good field position to attack the Lionesses line. Good Lionesses defence kept them at bay. The Lionesses quickly moved the ball up to halfway. The ball was moved across to Tamika Bull who dummied her way through the Salford defence and the past the fullback to go on a 50-metre run to the line to score. The conversion was missed. The restart was caught by Sydney Alderman-Smith. She broke through the defence and ran 65 metres to score. Maddie Higson converted. From the restart, runs by Sammi Simpson and Georgia Briggs set up the Lionesses next attack. A Maddie Higson pass sent Sydney Alderman-Smith through the Salford defence to score. From the penalty, the ball was moved out to Emma Welsford who sliced through the defence to score. Again, the conversion was missed. From the restart, Eleanor Atherton took the ball up to set up the next attack. The ball was moved out to Emma Welsford who went around the outside of the Salford defence before cutting back inside to score. She converted her own try.
