After the defeat to Warrington Wolves, the Lions bounced back with a much improved performance against Leigh Leopards.

The Lions opened the scoring in the 5th minute. Dan Robinson weaved his way through the Leopards defence and was tackled short of the line. The ball was moved out to Andy Unwin who scored in the corner. Dan Robinson converted. Two minutes later, Dan Robinson chipped the ball over the defence. Charlie Gordon gave chase with an open line in front of him. Unfortunately the bounce of the ball took it away from him and into the hands of a Leigh player. Another Dan Robinson kick nine minutes later was chased by Andy Unwin but, the ball stayed just out of his reach.

Leigh hit back two minutes later. A high kick by Danny Maiden was taken by a Leigh player who scored in the corner. Jack missed the conversion. After sustained pressure on the Lions line, Leigh moved the ball from one side of the pitch to the other. William Cunningham crossed to score. Andy Kay converted to give Leigh a 10-6 half time lead.

The Leopards scored again six minutes into the second half. Jack broke through the Lions defence to score. Andy Kay converted. Leigh thought they had scored again eight minutes later. They attacked out wide. A last ditch tackle by Andy Unwin prevented them from scoring. Leigh scored again in the 62nd minute when Andy Kay broke through the Lions defence and went half the length of the field to score. Jack missed the conversion.

The Lions attacked the Leigh line but were unable to score before turning the ball over. Leigh went the full length of the field in their next attack with William Cunningham crossing under the posts to score. Andy Kay converted. The Lions reduced the arrears six minutes later when the ball was moved out wide for Robin Cronshaw to score in the corner. Dan Robinson was unable to convert. Two minutes from time the Lions scored again. After some Leigh pressure, the Lions broke out of defence. Dan Robinson put in a kick which was re-gathered by a Leigh player before the Lions tackled him into touch near their own line. From the restart, Dan Robinson passed the ball out to Charlie Gordon who scored in the corner. Duncan Clarke hit the post with his conversion attempt. The Leopards forced a drop out from the restart. The ball was moved out to Reece to score in the corner. Andy Kay missed the conversion.

Swinton Lions continued their preparation for their first league season with a hard game against Championship side Warrington Wolves.

The Lions almost scored in the second minute when Andy Unwin got on the end of a kick but, he was tackled just short of the line. They turned the ball over which allowed Warrington to go onto the attack. A kick over the top by Jacobs was recovered by Paul Prince who went over under the posts to score. Paul Harding couldn’t add the extras. The Wolves scored again 3 minutes later following a Lions knock on. Paul Prince weaved his way through the Lions defence before passing the ball to Ben Stiff to score out wide. Mick Brown added the extras. The Lions recovered the short kick off but were forced over the touch line. From the restart, Mick Brown weaved his way through the Lions defence before passing the ball out to Ben Stiff who scored in the corner. Mick Brown converted to make it 16-0. The Wolves scored again in the 12th minute. Paul Prince chipped the ball over the Lions defence, re-gathered and scored under the posts. Paul Harding converted. They scored again 8 minutes later when Paul Harding chipped over the top for Paul Prince to score out wide. Mick Brown converted.

The Wolves scored again three minutes later when Jacobs weaved his way to the line to score. Paul Harding converted for a 34-0 lead. The Lions almost scored three minutes later when Jordan Parker put a kick in behind the Wolves defence on the last tackle. It was re-gathered by Charlie Gordon but he was tackled short on the line. A minute later, Jordan Parker put another kick in behind the defence for Charlie Gordon to chase. This time he was obstructed as he tried to get to the ball. The Lions lost the ball from the resulting penalty. This allowed the Wolves to quickly get back on the attack with Paul Harding going over in the corner. He converted his own try. The Lions lost the ball into touch three minutes later. This allowed Paul Prince to put in a short pass to send Jacobs racing away to score in the corner. Paul Harding converted. The Wolves went back onto the attack four minutes later. Jordan Parker intercepted a Wolves pass but he was unable to keep hold of the ball. The ball was eventually moved out to Ben Stiff who went over in the corner but, the try was disallowed for a forward pass. A loose pass by the Lions in the final minute of the half allowed the Wolves to go back on the attack. Jacobs went over to score. Paul Harding converted.

The Wolves scored again two minutes into the second half when Jacobs broke through the Lions defence to score under posts. Paul Harding converted. Jacobs scored again two minutes later but it was disallowed for a forward pass. They scored again a minute later when Paul Prince scored in the corner. Mick Brown was unable to add the extras. The Wolves scored again six minutes later when the ball was moved out wide to Jacobs to score in the corner. Paul Harding converted. The Lions were penalised five minutes later. The sent the Wolves back on the attack. The ball found its way out to Mick Brown to score. He converted his own try.

They scored again four minutes later. From a penalty, the ball was moved out to Paul Prince to score. Paul Harding converted. The Lions gained a penalty for obstruction ten minutes later. They quickly moved the ball downfield and out wide to Mark Jackson who had a clear run to the line but, he was called back for a knock on. A Warrington penalty a minute later allowed them to move the ball out to Jacobs to score in the corner. Paul Harding converted. The final points came in the last minute when Warrington’s Ben Stiff scored out wide. Paul Harding missed the conversion.
