After winning the Rochdale Hornets Young Player of the Year award in 2018, Billy’s capture represented a significant piece of pre-season business for the Lions. Having started his career at community club Cadishead Rhinos, Billy might also be considered as being yet another local in the Swinton team. Billy featured for Lancashire Under 18s at amateur level, before gaining experience in the pro game with Gloucestershire All Golds and North Wales Crusaders. At the All Golds he won the Player of the Year award in 2017, and at Crusaders he won their 2016 Young Player of the Year. In 2016 he also played a single game for Doncaster. One of Billy’s great attributes is that he can cover a variety of positions, including half-back, hooker and loose-forward. He is highly rated by the Swinton coaching staff, and a promising future seems assured especially at his current levels of progress, commitment and consistency.
