The Rugby Football League have released the following statement on the future of the 2020 Betfred Championship season.
09 September 2019
Brandon Wood becomes the first new player to sign with the Lions for the 2020 Championship season.
The Club is delighted to announce the signing of talented utility back Brandon Wood on a two-year contract.
Wood becomes the first signing for the 2020 campaign as Stuart Littler already begins preparations for the big season ahead.
The 19-year-old is a strong outside back, and is an exciting prospect in the Championship.
Like Matty Ashton, Wood is a product of amateur side Rochdale Mayfield, and signed his first professional contract with Rochdale Hornets after impressing during a trial period.
On the signing, Wood said: “Having spoke to Stuart about his plans for the upcoming season, I think it is going to be a great opportunity for me.
“I believe the Lions are going to be big competitors in the Championship. I can’t wait to get started with the lads in pre-season.”
Wood scored 10 tries in his debut year in the Championship for the Hornets.
“I am delighted to be able to announce the signing of Brandon Wood,” said head coach Stuart Littler.
“Brandon is a young and exciting player who has certainly troubled us this year in our match ups with Rochdale.
“After meeting Brandon I am sure he will fit nicely into our exciting young team and he is definitely coming here for the right reasons. Our edges have been flying this year and I am sure Brandon is as excited as we are with the opportunities that this will provide for him.”
