SWINTON INTRODUCE THE MANCHESTER LIONS!

10 June 2021

Manchester Lions, who of course are very much an integral part of the Swinton Lions’ community development strategy, kicked-off yesterday evening in the newly formed Greater Manchester Player Development League. It was a proud moment for all concerned, as two matches were played at Carrington in the under 12s and under 14s age groups against South Trafford Raiders.

Both games were eagerly contested and considering that both clubs were fielding teams at these age groups for the very first time, the youngsters produced some high quality attacking moves and strong defensive efforts throughout. The Raiders emerged as winners in both games, but the real winner on the night was the sport of Rugby League, with so many youngsters playing the sport with a smile on their faces.

Damian Ridpath, the Lions’ Director of Development said, “I would like to thank Sale FC for the ongoing use of their fantastic Carrington facility, and Peter Brookes of  South Trafford Raiders who helped organise the matches. I’d also like to thank all the players and coaches from both clubs who attended Carrington last night, all of whom were a credit to their respective clubs and families.

“Without a doubt there was some excellent young talent on show, and considering most were new to Rugby League this can only bode well for the future of the sport in our development areas.”

The same teams will meet again in a fortnight, and will also take part in three Rugby League festivals in late June and early July along with other clubs who have signed up to take part in the Development League.
