PREVIEW: SWINTON LIONS V HALIFAX RLFC

Here’s the latest preview as the Lions face Halifax RLFC in the Betfred Championship.

Swinton Lions return to Heywood Road for the first time since July to face Halifax RLFC in the Betfred Championship.

Stuart Littler’s side face 8th-placed Halifax at Heywood Road, with just two-point separating the sides.

FORM GUIDE

The Lions suffered a heavy defeat to Featherstone Rovers in a rare off-day for the side, conceding 66-points at the LD Nutrition Stadium. Jack Hansen, Rob Fairclough and Luke Waterworth all crossed for Swinton tries on the day.

Littler’s side currently sit 10th in the Betfred Championship, and a victory over Halifax could take them on joint-points in the ladder.

Halifax most recently suffered a close defeat against Wembley-bound Sheffield Eagles at The Shay with a scoreline of 20-18, with tries from Shaun Robinson, Scott Grix and Steve Tyrer.

Simon Grix’s side also recently represented the Championship in the Challenge Cup semi-finals against Super League table toppers St Helens, with a proud performance and scoreline for the side.

The sides last met in round five of the Championship, with just two-points the difference at full time

The Lions led up until the 70th minute, when Tyrer crossed for Halifax to claim the two league points in front of their home crowd.

Swinton last defeated Halifax in 2017 in round 19 of the Championship, with a 13-12 scoreline. Tries from Oliver Davies, Shaun Robinson and a drop-goal from Chris Atkin on the day.

Chris Hankinson and Jack Wells both return to the side on dual-registration.

Forward Gavin Bennion and Richard Lepori also both return to the squad after serving their bans.
