Winger Mike Butt has been called up to the Wales training squad ahead of the European Championship and 2021 Rugby League World Cup Qualifiers.
John Kear has called up Swinton Lions winger Mike Butt into the Wales training squad ahead of the European Championship and 2021 Rugby League World Cup Qualifiers.
The Talented winger and fan-favourite has been called into the Wales international squad after recently discovering he was eligible for the Dragons.
It was over text that Butt found out he qualified for Welsh duties following a ‘light-hearted chat’ with teammate Rhodri Lloyd, the player revealed to walesrugbyleague.co.uk.
Butt has played an influential part in Stuart Littler’s squad throughout the 2018 season, claiming the Lions’ ‘Man of Steel Award’ and voted at second place for the ‘Fan’s Player of the Year Award’ at the end of the season dinner.
Butt scored 10 tries in 27 appearance in 2018, and recently signed a contract extension with the Club which will see the 23-year-old remain a Lion for the 2019 Championship campaign.
On his call-up, Butt told swintonlionsrlfc.co.uk: “It’s a massive honour to get called up to the squad. I can’t wait to get started.”
