Check out the match preview as Swinton Lions welcome Dewsbury Rams in the second round of the 2020 Betfred Championship.

Swinton Lions open their home account in the Betfred Championship as they host Dewsbury Rams on Sunday afternoon at 3pm.

Tickets will be available on the gate at Heywood Road, priced at £18 for adults, £15 for concessions and children under the age of 16, just £2.

The Lions got off to a promising start to the new season as they defeated Whitehaven away from home 14-0 last weekend.

It was the first time since 1994 away to Highfield that Swinton have managed to prevent the opposition from scoring a single point on their own turf, so head coach Stuart Littler will be very pleased with his side’s performance.

Meanwhile the Rams lost 36-10 at home to Leigh Centurions in a very underwhelming and unconvincing performance.

In the league games between the sides last season, Dewsbury defeated Swinton 38-24 at the Tetley’s Stadium in February, but Swinton got their revenge in May when they won 22-17 at Heywood Road in a captivating affair.

The clubs then faced in the 1985 Cup in June as Dewsbury came out 44-26 winners at home and ended Swinton’s run in the competition.

Despite Sunday’s game being against a more established side than Whitehaven, if you consider Swinton’s win in their last home game against the Rams and the strong start to the campaign they’ve made, the Lions will be confident of getting another win on Sunday.

So come in numbers, get behind your Lions and let’s make Heywood Road an intimidating place for the opposition to come to.

Swinton have won just three of the last 10 meetings between the two sides, their last victory coming in the most recent league tie between the two at Heywood Road in May 2019.

Last five meetings:

Dewsbury 44, Swinton 26 (1895C-R2, 2/6/19)

Swinton 22, Dewsbury 17 (ChR15, 26/5/19)

Dewsbury 38, Swinton 24 (ChR3, 17/2/19)

Dewsbury 40, Swinton 7 (CSR1, 12/8/18)

Swinton 29, Dewsbury 28 (ChR19, 1/7/18)
