LONDON SKOLARS 22 SWINTON LIONS 48

26 June 2022

IAN RIGG New River Stadium Saturday

The Lions ran in eight tries to end the Skolars four match unbeaten run and keep the Lions in second place in the league. Despite the rail strikes and the travel problems brought with that the Lions had a large following of fans cheering them on.

Mike Butt put the Lions ahead on six minutes after a nice reverse pass from Max Roberts and Dan Abram converted and Mitch Cox added a second on fourteen minutes after some nice build up play by Lewis Else again converted but Abram in the tricky wind. Three minutes later came try number three when Jayden Hatton finished off a move in the right corner again with Abram on target. The impressive George Roby made a nice break down the middle on twenty minutes and Roberts finished it off scoring in the left corner and yet again Abram added the conversion points. Roby got a rest on the half hour and within a minute his replacement Matty Wilkinson broke the Skolars defence and offloaded to the supporting Abram who raced in to score under the posts and he also added the conversion to his try. Skolars then hit back when the Lions were penalised twice near their line and Aaron Small forced his way over to score but Phil Lyon could not convert, but three minutes later they added a second when Abevia McDonald crossed in the right corner but Neil Thorman this time was unable to convert.

Skolars added a third try just after the restart when again the Lions were penalised near their own line and Small again forced his way over and Thorman converted this one to put them within sixteen points of the Lions. Paddy Jones then hit Skolars with a brace of tries in a five-minute period and again Abram converted both. Skolars were not lying down and hit the Lions with two more tries with Lyon scoring an interception from halfway and McDonald making the most of a Lions ball handling error to score in the corner but again both converions were missed. The Lions had the final word when Mike Butt broke away in the final minute to feed Richard Lepori and he raced in by the posts with Abram again converting to send the fans home happy.
