LIONS HONOUR HERITAGE WITH SPECIAL KIT

11 January 2018

Swinton Lions’ assault on the Championship in 2018 will come some 152 years after their formation, and to mark this incredible history the team will be proudly wearing a special heritage kit for their upcoming pre-season matches.

This coming Sunday 14th January (1pm), the Lions will face time-honoured rivals Salford Red Devils at the AJ Bell Stadium, before a trip up to Cumbria a week later to face Whitehaven. Finally there will be a prestigious home game against Wigan Warriors at Heywood Road on Sunday 28 January (3pm).

In each of these pre-season matches the Lions will take to the field wearing a chest-pumping one-off navy blue kit – the colours traditionally worn by Swinton from their formation in 1866 up until 1960, which then saw the advent of the now familiar royal blue jersey with a white chevron.

To give the heritage shirt a further air of authenticity, all advertising logos have been removed. Only a superb “Rampant Lion” logo, depicted within a shield, will remain. The inspiration for this design has come from the kit worn by the Lions when they swept all before them during their halcyon days of the 1920s. Indeed, 2018 marks the 90th anniversary of Swinton’s unique “All 5 Cups” triumph.

Only 25 of these shirts have been produced, and after the conclusion of the Wigan game they will each be auctioned off to supporters (Details to follow soon). These fantastic shirts are therefore sure to be in big demand!

To coincide with the Lions playing heritage kit, a special heritage range will be launched on Friday 12th January, which includes new pieces such as lightweight gilet, stylish college jacket, vintage rugby shirt and much more. Visit the swintonlionsshop.com from 10am tomorrow to view the range.
