LIONS CONFIRM CHAIRMAN

23 November 2020

Swinton Lions have continued the process of revamping their off-field structure with the appointment of Stuart Fletcher as their new club Chairman.

Stuart Fletcher became a Director a year ago at the invitation of Operations Director Steve Wild, who was then in the process of assembling a new Board.

Stuart had previously been a regular sponsor and club benefactor, as well as being a life-long fan of the Lions and rugby league in general.

In his new position Stuart will draw on a wide variety of experiences from his professional background as a senior officer in a government law department.

The Lions’ Operations Director Steve Wild explained, “When I began the process of assembling a new management structure a year ago, Stuart’s name was the first on my list of people to approach.

“He is someone I trust implicitly, and not just because he is a personal friend.

“Stuart will bring great pride as well as significant value to the post.

“Professionally he has an impressive CV having worked with some extremely senior people at the highest level. He is a peoples’ person, yet very astute and analytical.

“But most of all he loves Swinton Lions to the core, and I know he will give everything to the role of Chairman.

“This appointment represents another significant piece of our development jigsaw.”

“I feel so proud to be able to lead the Lions on this exciting journey!”

Upon accepting the role Stuart said, “It is a great honour to be appointed Chairman of our historic club.

“I attended my first Swinton game in 1969 and feel so proud to be able to lead the Lions on this exciting journey as we establish ourselves as a positive, outward looking club within the rugby league community.

“I do not take lightly the responsibility that comes with the role. I can assure everyone connected with Swinton Lions that I am 100% committed to the growth of the club and to building on our great history and heritage.

“It is a privilege to be Chairman when we have a Board of Directors comprising of dedicated, highly skilled individuals who lead from the front.

“We also have tremendous players, coaching team, backroom staff, and volunteers – plus not forgetting our fantastic supporters who I firmly believe are the most loyal in rugby league.

“The game is changing on and off the field and I will ensure that we are not complacent, but rather in a strong position to meet the challenges ahead.

“We are currently in the middle of a significant process of engagement with the RFL, our governing body, through which we intend to outline our strategic vision.

“Our intention is to demonstrate to the rugby league community that Swinton Lions is a club with significant ambition.

“This marvellous club belongs to us all and as Chairman I want to be seen as approachable and transparent.

“The role also requires decisive decision making, and clarity in communications, and so it’s appropriate that our stakeholders understand decisions that affect the club.

“Finally, on behalf of the whole Board, I’d like to thank our superb loyal fans and club partners for your ongoing support. In the meantime, especially in this unprecedented period of worldwide uncertainty, please keep safe.”
