LIONS BOLSTER BACKS WITH MARCUS WEBB

29 October 2017

A fantastic Swinton Lions social afternoon at the Oddfellows Arms in Clifton this afternoon was topped off with the ‘live’ signing of our latest recruit, Marcus Webb!

Marcus, a 20-year-old winger or full-back, hails from the Cardiff area. Earlier this year he made the 36 man training group from which the Wales World Cup squad was chosen, and although he didn’t quite make the final selection full international recognition is surely only a matter of time away.

Marcus made his semi-professional bow with South Wales Scorpions as a 17-year-old back in 2015. He then moved to Leeds to study for a sports degree, and it was there that he came to the attention of Hunslet. He subsequently signed on at the South Leeds Stadium club for the 2017 campaign and put in some superb performances.

Head Coach Stuart Littler said of his latest recruit for 2018, “I am really excited that Marcus has agreed to join our squad. He is a Welsh and GB student international who is currently studying for his degree over in Leeds. Whilst reviewing Danny Ansell, Marcus’ name came up, and after some closer scrutiny it was clear that he’d had some outstanding performances for Hunslet last season.”

“I am therefore looking forward to working with Marcus to ensure that he takes the next step to become a recognised Championship player. Marcus’s enthusiasm is infectious and he will bring a lot of qualities to our group.”

Marcus certainly got a warm welcome from the fans this afternoon!
