JACK SPENCER COMING HOME TO SWINTON!

22 October 2021

Our latest signing will no doubt prove a popular one locally, as we welcome Swintonian Jack Spencer to the Lions! Jack, who stands 6 feet 1 and turned 30 on his last birthday, has plenty of experience playing as a prop or in the second row.

Jack is a product of Folly Lane, from where he progressed to Salford Red Devils in 2010. After a stint in Australia with Wests Tigers he signed for Barrow in 2013. Then after leaving Craven Park Jack had two seasons with Halifax, before joining newly promoted Oldham in the Championship in 2016 where his dad Lee “Spanner” Spencer was assistant coach. After six seasons with the Roughyeds, Jack is now coming home to Swinton!

Upon joining the Lions Jack said, “Playing for Swinton is something that’s been in the back of my mind for probably a couple of years now, and I feel like this is the right time for me to come and finish my career at my home town club. I’m looking forward to a big year and hopefully winning another League 1 title.”

Lions’ Head Coach Allan Coleman was delighted. He said, “It’s great to get Jack on board at the Lions. He’s someone who the club has been interested in for a number of years and it’s good to finally get his signature. His experience will be massive for us as a club, on top of which he’s a Swinton lad. Jack is a tough middle who will help lead our young squad next season.”

Swinton Lions CEO Steve Wild added, “Once again as we welcome Jack to the club, we have seen the value of Pride Builder in helping to shape our squad for 2022. Pride Builder is most definitely giving us a recruitment advantage that many of our rivals don’t have, which the Board, players and coaching staff are really appreciative of. Thank you once again to everyone involved, no matter how large or small your contribution.”
