IN DEPTH WITH: SCOTT MOORE

13 July 2019

We caught up with Scott Moore ahead of his 250th career appearance.

In the latest ‘In Depth With’, we caught up with former England international Scott Moore, who could make his fourth appearance for the Lions and his 250th career appearance this weekend against Bradford Bulls.

We asked Scott Moore a few of our own and questions from the fans as the Lions look to climb the Championship table following back-to-back wins over Rochdale Hornets and Batley Bulldogs.

How did the signing to Swinton come about?

The signing came about as I almost signed here in the off-season and kept in touch with Stuart Littler and Andy Mazey. They were still keen and so was I. I’ve been good mates with them two for a long time.

We’ve seen a few jokes about Andy Mazey teaching you a thing or two in rugby league, what’s your relationship like with both Andy and Stuart?

Andy was my next door neighbour from the age of around two or so, so I practically grew up with him, my brother and his brother all the way up to teenagers. As I said, I’ve known them a long time and are good guys.

What do you believe is your best position?

Hooker is my best position I feel, but I can cover at the halves and even middle at loose forward. I’ve played everywhere over the years.

What is your best memory in the sport?

Best memory is hard as I have met so many amazing people and done so many things, but I think beating Saints while being on loan from them to Huddersfield in the semi-final of the Challenge Cup to get to Wembley was unreal. Just a shame we didn’t win it!

We’ve already seen you feature for the Lions, including two wins, but what do you think you can bring for the rest of the Championship season?

Hopefully I can bring some stability in getting us around the park and as an old head, I can help us be more patient and complete our sets.

How confident are you about cementing our place in the Championship?

I’m confident that we will stay in the Championship. They’re a determined group that work hard for each other and I don’t see a reason why we can’t finish mid-table should we execute game plans Stuart sets us more efficiently

How did you find your debut at Heywood Road for the Lions?

I enjoyed my first game despite of the result. I feel we missed a trick to beat them looking back now but York were great and clinical and deserved winners as we didn’t put in place what we had done all week. I’m looking forward to understanding the lads better and the systems here and getting more time on the field and to win some games

Is this the most competitive Championship season we’ve ever seen?

The Championship has gone from strength to strength over the years and yes, this is probably the best it’s been for a number of years. Anyone can beat anyone which is a good spectacle for the fans

What’s your favourite sweet?

I’m not a toffee person, more chocolate! I remember eating cola cubes and rosie apples as a kid and they stick out the most.
