Sam Grant becomes the latest recruit for the Lions as Stuart Littler builds his squad for the 2020 Betfred Championship season.
Swinton Lions RLFC are delighted to announce the signing of Sam Grant on a one-year deal for the 2020 Betfred Championship season.
The 20-year-old played for London Skolars during the 2019 season scoring three tries in four games, before going on to make two further appearances for Rochdale Hornets towards the end of the year.
Grant, who play at either centre or wing, was also part of the Wigan Warriors U19s side that were crowned Super League Academy Champions in 2018, with the youngster crossing the try line in the victory over Leeds Rhinos.
The youngster was present as the Lions squad returned to pre-season training earlier this week, whilst head coach Stuart Littler recently led Ireland to a 2021 World Cup place.
“I am very happy to sign for the Lions and I’m really looking forward to the season ahead,” said Grant.
“I’m also looking forward to meeting my new team mates and getting involved during pre season. Hopefully I can contribute into making 2020 a good year for both the club and supporters.”
On the signing, Littler added: “I’m really excited to be able to announce the signing of former Wigan junior Sam Grant. Sam is a very experienced academy star who has already had some success in his career.”
“After watching academy games at our partner club Wigan, Sam was identified as a player who we felt had the potential if the opportunity ever arose to get him on board.
“I am pleased to say after meeting Sam a couple of times he sees us as a good fit for the next stage of his career. Sam will challenge for a centre berth, but he can also adequately cover the wing position.
“I am really excited by this signing. He is a great kid and I am happy to have got this one done. Welcome to the Lions, Sam.”
