29 March 2019

Swinton Lions travel to the LD Nutrition Stadium to face Featherstone Rovers in the Coral Challenge Cup.

Swinton Lions travel to the LD Nutrition Stadium to face Featherstone Rovers in round four of the Coral Challenge Cup.

The Lions travel on the back of their first league victory, defeating Barrow Raiders 33-26 at the Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium.

They now enter the fourth round of the Challenge Cup, a competition the Lions have been victorious on three occasions in our history.

FORM GUIDE

Tries from Liam Forsyth, Mike Butt, Jack Hansen, Gavin Bennion and Liam Paisley – and a drop-goal from Oscar Thomas – guided the Lions to their first victory of the season over tough-rivals Barrow Raiders.

Swinton found themselves 18-12 down despite scoring first through Forsyth, but four second-half tries saw Staurt Littler’s side claim their win of the season. The victory takes them 11th in the season, jumping above Rochdale Hornets and Batley Bulldogs.

Featherstone’s home run came to an end last weekend when Dewsbury Rams defeated the side 32-22. Ryan Carr’s side sit 6th in the Betfred Championship table.

Harry Aaronson returns to the 19-man squad for the first time since his injury in the pre-season friendly against Salford Red Devils, whilst in-form Matty Ashton is rested for this weekend’s clash.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Swinton faced Featherstone Rovers in round seven of the Betfred Championship at Heywood Road, and it was the visitors who took the league points with a close 24-12 encounter.

Matty Ashton scored his fifth try of the season, whilst Bennion also crossed for his first in a bruising battle at the Lions’s fortress.

Ashley Warne is named in the 19-man squad for the first time of the season, whilst Aaronson also returns from injury.
