Mike Butt has signed a new two-year deal with the Lions.
The club are excited to announce that winger Mike Butt has signed a new two year contract with the Lions.
Mike Butt has this week signed a new two-year deal with the club.
A former England student international, Mike is now a well established and feared Championship outside-back.
After winning the club’s Young Player of the Year award in 2017, he followed this up by landing the Lions’ prestigious Man of Steel award in 2018.
“I’m delighted to have signed for the next two years,” said Butt.
“I’m really enjoying my time here and I’m excited about the direction the club is heading in.
“A lot of hard work has been put in from the Chairman, board, staff and supporters to keep this club alive and get it back to where it should be, and I’m looking forward to carrying on doing my part.”
Mike Butt has scored 17 tries in 20 appearances for the Lions in 2019, and sits joint-second in the try-scorer table in the Championship competition alongside teammate Matty Ashton.
“I am absolutely made up with Mike Butt’s decision to extend his contract with the Lions by a further two years,” said Head Coach Stuart Littler.
“Any credit we can give to Mike will never be enough as he goes over and above every day with his commitment to both myself but more importantly to the team.
“Mike leads with examples both on and off the pitch. He is a very likeable lad who has great morals and an outstanding work ethos.
“On the pitch Mike epitomises commitment and desire and this is demonstrated in every action. Again, Mike has plenty of years on his side and is another player who I feel we have yet to see the best of.
“I am really excited by Mike’s future as he has not been playing Rugby League all that long. He currently he stands at second in the scoring charts for the whole competition and is definitely having an outstanding season.”
On the latest announcement and third player this week to sign beyond 2019, Chairman Andy Mazey added: “It’s another strong statement to be able to announce a two year extension for one of the most progressive wingers outside of Super League.
“Butty is a fan’s favourite and epitomises what this club is all about giving 100% for every single minute of every game.
“It’s a clear indicator that we are working extremely hard behind the scenes to move this club and team forward. To keep a player of Butty’s quality, who had serious interest from much bigger clubs you need to have the right vision, brand, plan and people working hard off the pitch to generate the levels of finance required to match players ambitions.
“We also need the continued full support of our magnificent supporters, who I know will be made up with this one.
“Make no mistake, this deal is one for the fans so I hope we get a big turn out on Sunday and hope to hear an extra special rendition of that KC & The Sunshine Band classic safe in the knowledge we won’t be giving anything up!”
