LIONS PART COMPANY WITH STUART LITTLER
Swinton Lions RLFC can confirm that it has parted company with Head Coach Stuart Littler.
14 February 2021
Following a whole year out of action, the Lions will soon be back on the field in the BetFred Championship!
On the opening day of the 2021 season, Swinton will have a mouth-watering local derby against Oldham at Bower Fold on Good Friday.
The Lions’ first league game at Heywood Road will be against Featherstone Rovers on Sunday 18th April, which will be followed a week later by the visit of York.
Owing to the restricted length of the season, four games are excluded from the calendar. The “missing” games being trips to Featherstone and newly promoted Newcastle Thunder, together with home games against Toulouse and Whitehaven.
Ahead of the opening league fixtures, the Lions will of course start their season with a home cup-tie on Sunday 21st March against Newcastle Thunder. Should Swinton be successful in that game, they will welcome the winners of the Oldham versus Barrow tie a week later. Both of these rounds will double-up as both Challenge Cup and 1895 Cup ties.
Current indications are that the early part of the season (at minimum) will be played behind closed doors, and considerable work is going on behind the scenes with our stadium partners Sale FC to ensure that Heywood Road is Covid protocol compliant. However, it is hoped that any behind closed doors matches will be available to view via the “Our League” app. More details will follow in due course.
