2020 BETFRED CHAMPIONSHIP FIXTURES ANNOUNCED

17 November 2019

The new season is almost upon us! The RFL have announced the fixture list for the 2020 Betfred Championship.

The 2020 Betfred Championship fixtures have been announced by the Rugby Football League for the forthcoming season.

Swinton Lions cemented their best league position in 21 years as they finished the 2019 campaign in ninth place in the Betfred Championship.

Reward for their success sees Stuart Littler’s men open the new campaign on 2 February away at newly-promoted league 1 champions Whitehaven, kicking off followed by the season closer at Heywood Road against Halifax on 6 September.

The loyal Lions fanbase have been heralded for their good spirit and support on the road and can look forward their much anticipated away day in France to face Toulouse Olympique on 18 April at the club’s new venue, Stade Ernest-Wallon. The return fixture will take place at the Lions’ Den on 12 July.

Local rivals Oldham make a welcome return to the Championship and provide opposition on three occasions in 2020 with former Lion Harry Aaronson set to face his former side. Swinton travel to Bower Fold on 10 April before facing off again at the Summer Bash in Blackpool just over a month later on 31 May. The third and final clash against the local rival takes place at the Heywood Road on 2 August.

Returning to the Championship, London Broncos will travel to the Lions midweek on 14 April and play host in the capital on 30 August. Familiar foes Bradford Bulls will also prove a stern test, travelling to Heywood Road on 22 February, followed by the away clash at Crown Flatt on 14 June. Strong outfit Featherstone Rovers, who played in the 2019 Championship play-off final, will provide stiff competition on 8 March at Post Office Road and in the reverse fixture in Sale on 23 August.

Familiar opposition for the Lions will also come in the form of Batley Bulldogs, Dewsbury Rams, Halifax, Leigh Centurions, Sheffield Eagles, York City Knights and Widnes Vikings.

Outside of league action in the Championship, three-time Challenge Cup winners Swinton will start their campaign in the famous competition and the 1895 Cup on dates to be confirmed by the RFL soon.
